🌿Why Kpop

Why K-Pop?

I grew up loving pop groups. B2K, Blaque, 702, N-Sync, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, Destiny's Child, etc. Not just girl and boy groups, but solo artists that were really good with choreography like Usher and Ciara. The combination of themed looks, stage presence, singing ability, AND choreography is impressive to me because it's hard (I'm not talking about Backstreet Boys here though lol). The US doesn't have these groups in any real capacity anymore, sooo... 😅

The beginning

I really liked Shinhwa and ended up joining an early 2000s forum dedicated to them. That's where I learned to use Photoshop. People had avis and sigs to make. 💁‍♀️ I have tried searching all over but I've been unable to find any remnants of the place. I can't even remember the name of the forum, but I think it was run by a couple Dutch ladies. Around the same time, I got into watching a couple Korean variety shows like X-Man. Other artists I liked: H.O.T., Seo Taiji, Fin.K.L, BoA.

Before finding K-Pop, I'd always been into J-Pop and games lol, but there was something different with K-Pop for sure. They had cooler choreography in general and different look. Then later came Girl's Generation and so many others; a lot of K-Pop was pretty unique sounding and different. They still stole...coughwere inspired by US R&B artists while also being at times super camp and just weird.

They just don't do songs like this anymore...

Currently

Not sure why, but I totally stopped listening to any Korean music around the Big Bang era. The groups that got me back were Ateez and Stray Kids. I still really like Skz but Ateez has been doing everything so right since I first heard them with Guerilla. It's the metal energy they give off.
